　　美国各州雇佣员工数量最多的公司规模差别很大。在阿拉斯加，普罗维登斯健康与服务网络公司雇佣了大约4000人。而在华盛顿州，波音的员工数量是它的18倍。在德克萨斯州，沃尔玛的员工总数为171,531人。根据最新的全职和兼职员工数量，它是50个州中最大的雇主。作为全球最大的零售商，沃尔玛对很多州的经济都有着很大影响。并且它在22个州都是雇主冠军，在阿肯色州的大本营拥有53,310人，占该州整个零售业的30%左右，并占该州总劳动力的4%。

　　教育行业和医药机构也是雇佣大户，除了沃尔玛，在这五十多个州里最常见的最大雇佣者就是州立大学体系。纽约州立大学运营着整个州的64个校园，雇佣超过90,000教职员工。此外在14个州，医疗保健体系都是最大雇主。比如马萨诸塞州的合作医疗机构，雇员有68000人。其中一些医疗保健机构也是大学体系的一部分，如宾夕法尼亚大学医疗中心(university of Pennsylvania Medical Center)，在该州有61000名员工。
