  (A) explosive

  (B) fertile

  (C) predictable

  (D) contemplative

  (E) regressive

Hoping to preserve natural habitats, conservationists lobbied for legislation that would ------- commercial development in these areas.

  (A) mandate

  (B) accommodate

  (C) economize

  (D) diversify

  (E) arrest

The award-winning novel is such ------- tale that its very intricacy has a daunting effect on readers.

  (A) a convoluted

  (B) a culpable

  (C) a succinct

  (D) an enthralling

  (E) a felicitous

  ANSWER

  Q3.offset by 被…

Section 7

  Q6. (RT0805_S07_Q08-错误率85.28%)

The ------- of impact craters on Venus suggests that erosion may have smoothed its surface over the past billion years.

  (A) magnitude

  (B) panoply

  (C) spate

  (D) ruggedness

  (E) paucity

  Q7. (RT0805_S07_Q07-错误率83.44%)

The crude animated effects ------- projected images from seventeenth-century lantern slides have now been recognized as------- of modem film animation.

  (A) complemented by .. antecedents

  (B) forestalled by .. harbingers

  (C) depicted in .. derivatives

  (D) featured in .. replicas

  (E) afforded by .. forerunners

  ANSWER:

Q6:这道填空题错误比较多,更多的原因是对impact crater(撞击坑)的不熟悉,或者对天文学知识的不熟悉,因为文后有“erosion may have smoothed its surface over the past billion years”就表明了撞击坑是很少的,所以选择paucity(低频词汇)

Section 3

  Q8. (RT1101_S03_Q07-错误率87.76%)

The paucity of autobiographical documents left by the royal attendants has compelled historian Raul Salazar to ------ the motives of these courtiers from their------ rather than from any diaries or correspondence.

  (A) stipulate .. accomplishments

  (B) contemplate .. journals

  (C) surmise .. deeds

  (D) allege .. assertions

  (E) elicit .. missives

  Q9. (RT1101_S03_Q08-错误率83.67%)

The painter lamented the evanescence of beauty, even though she seemed in several of her works to have ------ it as it passed and so ------ it for posterity.

  (A) seized .. absolved

  (B) vanquished .. perpetuated

  (C) arrested .. preserved

  (D) neglected .. established

  (E) dispelled .. enshrined

  ANSWER:

Section 7

  Q10. (RT1010_S07_Q02-错误率83.33%)

There was so much ------ in the recent senatorial campaign that voters tuned out, disgusted with the barrage of malicious accusations.

  (A) incompetence

  (B) lethargy

  (C) obstinacy

  (D) mudslinging

  (E) grandstanding

  ANSWER:

Grammar & Math

Section 8

Which of the following is the best version of the underlined portion of sentence 8 (reproduced below)?

Almost all drugs go through strict testing before approval and failing at least once.

  (A) (as it is now)

  (B) approval, failing

  (C) approval; failure occurring

  (D) approval; they failed

  (E) approval but they have failed

Which of the following is the best version of the underlined portion of sentence14 (reproduced below)?

A scientist who finds that a hypothesis is false can then try to develop a new one based on the information obtained.

  (A) (As it is now)

  (B) A scientist, finding a hypothesis is false, can have tried to develop

  (C) Finding a hypothesis as false, a scientist would try to develop

  (D) A false hypothesis can have a scientist now try to develop

  (E) Hypotheses that are false can teach a scientist; they develop

  ANSWER:

  Q3: B. can have tried错误;C. would try to错误;D. a false hypothesis做主语改变句子的逻辑意思,同时havesb do sth这个结构错误;E的they代表hypotheses,显然跟原文的意思相违背。

Section 6

Quincy took Dan to Derek's home (A) for a visit, (B) never imagining that five years (C) would pass before (D) seeing Derek again. (E) No error

  ANSWER:

Section 10

  Q5. (RT0510_S06_Q11-W)

Intimacy, love, and marriage are three different, if interrelated, subjects.

  (A) different, if interrelated, subjects

  (B) interrelated subjects, being, however, different

  (C) different subjects, whereas they are interrelated

  (D) different subjects when interrelated

  (E) subjects that are different although being interrelated

  Q6. (RT0510_S06_Q10-W)

When for the first time the United States imported more oil than it exported, Americans should have realized that an energy crisis was imminent and couldhappen in the future.

  (A) was imminent and could happen in the future

  (B) could happen imminently in the future

  (C) will be imminent and happening soon

  (D) is an imminent thing

  (E) might be imminent

  Q7. (RT0510_S06_Q29-W)

The cost of (A) safely disposing of the toxic chemicals (B) is approximately (C) five times what the company paid (D) to purchase it. (E) No error

  ANSWER:

  Q6:考察语法常见的重复:imminent与happen in the future是重复的,类似的考点还有: discovery& find; annual & every year; continue & go on等,最好不要在同一个句子中出现。

Section 5

  Q8. (RT0510_S05_Q20-M)

If j. k, and n are consecutive integers such that 0 < j < k < n and the units(ones) digit of the product jn is 9,what is the units digit of k?

  (A) 0

  (B) 1

  (C) 2

  (D) 3

  (E) 4

  ANSWER:

Section 5

  Q9. (RT0710_S05_Q25-W)

At a time (A) when interest in twentieth-century classical music (B) seems on the verge (C) to disappear, the avant-garde compositions of the 1960s and 1970s (D) manage to retain their popularity. (E) No error (RT0710_S05_Q25-W)

  (1) The decade after 1937 saw considerable growth in the African American press in the United States.(2) Traditionally, African American newspapers had been distributed only through the mail and at newsstands in a few large cities. (3) However, in 1938 LeRoy Brannic founded a newspaper distributorship, the Great Eastern News Corporation, in New York City, without lets in cities throughout the country. (4) It was controlled and operated entirely by African Americans. (5) Brannic's company put African American newspapers into wide circulation across the country. (6) Though viewed as a modem means of mass communication, newspapers in fact date back to ancient Rome.

  (7) Increased circulation brought more income with which African American publishers could improve production. (8) The Scott Syndicate in Atlanta, Georgia, was mass-producing 32 different newspapers by the mid-1940s.(9) Syndication offered the advantages of shared news, features, and printing, each paper still maintaining contact with its local community through a small staff employed there.

  (10) Salaries rose, and while the older, self-made men retained ownership of the newspapers. (11) College-educated reporters began to join newspaper staffs.

  (12) Coverage expanded. (13) Some of the more successful papers could support their own foreign correspondents. (14)Increased use of photography in the newspapers, made possible by the purchase of expensive printing equipment, meant more work and better salaries for African American photographers.

  Q10. (RT0710_S05_Q34-W)

In context, what is the best way to deal with sentence 10 (reproduced below)?Salaries rose, and while the older, self-made men retained ownership of the newspapers.

  (A) Insert the word "had" immediately before" retained".

  (B) Connect it to sentence 11 with a comma, changing "newspapers. College-educated" to" newspapers, college-educated".

  (C) Switch it with sentence 11.

  (D) Place it immediately before sentence 7.

  (E) Change "while" to" yet".

Q11. (RT0710_S10_Q14-W)The first emperor of Rome was Augustus, and many people think that it was Julius Caesar.

  (A) and many people think that it was

  (B) many people thinking

  (C) not, as many people think,

  (D) not what many people are thinking,

  (E) but many people think it to be

  Q12. (RT0710_S05_Q31-W)

In context, which of the following is the best revision of the underlined portion of sentences 4 and 5 (reproduced below)? It was controlled and operated entirely by African Americans. Brannic's company put African American newspapers into wide circulation across the country.

  (A) It was controlled and operated entirely by African Americans, and Brannic's company

  (B) It was controlled and operated entirely by African Americans, though Brannic's company

  (C) Being controlled and operated entirely by African Americans, it was Brannic's company that

  (D) Controlled and operated entirely by African Americans, Brannic's company

  (E) Brannic's company, which was controlled and operated entirely by African Americans, has

  ANSWER:

Q9:固定搭配"on the verge of doing sth."

  Q11:as many people think/assume是插入语,在OC题上也考察了很多次。

Critical Reading

Section 8

  Q1. (Section 8-Q12 错误率91.45%)

The "European translators" might argue that those guilty of the "crime" (line40) are likely to

  (A) force ancient ideas into a modern mold

  (B) encourage literary accomplishment while neglecting traditional scholarship

  (C) insist that ancient poems be read only in their original language

  (D) treat authors with excessive reverence

  (E) pursue commercial success rather than artistic excellence

Both Arnold (Passage 1) and Pound (Passage 2) assume that a good translation captures the

  (A) distinctive nature of the original poem

  (B) poet's thoughts about the creative process

  (C) values and ideals of the poet's era

  (D) sound and rhythm of the original language

  (E) subtleties of the poet's reasoning

For which of the following qualities would the "European translators" (line 40) most likely praise Pound's version of "The Seafarer" (Passage 2)?

  (A) Its skillful display of the beauties of modern English

  (B) Its sensitive demonstration of the original poet's genius

  (C) Its faithful reproduction of Anglo-Saxon sounds

  (D) Its subtle presentation of human emotions

  (E) Its imaginative interpretation of individual words

The author of Passage 2 suggests that the "wrath" (line 66) of the scholars was

  (A) irrational, because it ignored Pound's good intentions

  (B) meaningless, because the scholars were not translators

  (C) inevitable, because Pound's method had attracted considerable attention

  (D) genuine, because the scholars felt personally insulted

  (E) understandable, because Pound's claim could be disputed

  Answer:

Q1. S题,一定要回上下文,回原文我们会找到" in fact, many of us accept only literal translations because we want to give the original authors their due. ",进行预判,答案为"give the original authors their due"的paraphrase,采用POE(排除法)对选项进行排除.

Newman, Arnold, we, European translators, the author 1等;第二篇文章有Pound,the author 2等,所以可以列出一个表格来,然后把不同人到底是支持literal translation还是impression translation进行区分,同时对他们的原因进行总结和分析。

Section 2 & Section 4

Section 2

Q5. Lines 39-43 ("On the ... play") imply that the actors (S02_Q21-Q

  (A) had a good deal of professional experience

  (B) made the author question her own identity

  (C) would be unlikely to fool the panelists

  (D) needed money more than the author did

  (E) were unlike other Asian American performers

Section 4

Q6. In line 25, the author most likely mentions that cope pods "do their best to be transparent" in order to (S04_Q19-错误率84.87%)

  (A) explain why they are luminescent

  (B) account for their apparent dislike of eating Noctiluca

  (C) account for their relative abundance

  (D) reinforce the point that they are more difficult to detect than are Noctiluca

  (E) indicate what makes them so successful as predators

Q7. The experience described in Passage 2 most directly suggests that the statement about the "danger" (line 9Passage 1) (S04_Q11-

  (A) accurately assesses the strength of a common human impulse

  (B) needlessly exaggerates the risks a person faces among wild chimpanzees

  (C) appropriately warns professionals about the necessity of keeping their research current

  (D) discourages overly optimistic observers from expecting to make new discoveries

  (E) fails to consider the consequences of a flawed research methodology

  ANSWER:

Section 4 & Section 9

Section 9

Q8. In line 46, "mean" most nearly means (RT0805_S09_Q17-

  (A) base

  (B) dull

  (C) average

  (D) humble

  (E) stingy

Section 4

Q9. In line 22, "carried" most nearly means (RT0805_S04_Q08-

  (A) supported

  (B) transmitted

  (C) extended

  (D) expressed

  (E) bore

  ANSWER:

We are humiliated by what is powerful and ____ but awed by what is powerful and noble.

  第一步先看一下能否用“上下文逻辑”处理问题,所谓行下文逻辑,即通过类似于填空题的着眼去全句意思的完整性的基础上,通过取同取反来做题,一般这样的题目难度比较低;
